PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Erin Smyth
Erin has been a physiotherapist for 23 years. She graduated from the University of Queensland in 1998 and completed her Sports Physiotherapy Masters in 2003. She recently completed her PhD under a joint scholarship from the University of Canberra and Australian Institute of Sport in collaboration with Netball Australia. Her thesis was focussed on injury prevention in netball development athletes. She has also completed a Graduate Diploma in Extended Scope Physiotherapy at the University of Canberra.
Erin has played hockey for nearly 40 years, representing Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory. She is currently Hockey Australia’s Pathway’s Performance Health lead and is passionate about preventing and managing development athlete injuries. She also played representative netball, touch football, gaelic football and vigoro when at school.
Erin has a wide range of experience with many types of injuries and sports while working at the Australian Institute of Sport and English Institute of Sport. She worked with wheelchair racing at the Beijing Paralympics, Para-rowing at the London Paralympics and Hockeyroos at the Rio Olympics. She has also previously worked with the Matildas, Young Matildas and Reading Football Club in the UK.
